The Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University (Second Clinical Medical College) is a directly affiliated hospital of Guangxi Medical University, established on March 27, 2003. On October 9 of the same year, it merged with the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University and was renamed as the Western Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University (a branch under extended management). On January 1, 2017, it resumed independent operation and management.

After six years of construction and development, the overall comprehensive strength of the hospital has rapidly improved, its regional influence has significantly increased, its industry status and social reputation have significantly improved, and it has become a comprehensive hospital of Grade III Class A, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, health care, and rehabilitation. It is an important high-quality medical resource in Guangxi and the main clinical teaching base of Guangxi Medical University. It is a national drug clinical trial institution (covering 10 specialties including respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, kidney diseases, endocrinology, immunology, radiotherapy, oncology, hematology, and organ transplantation). It is certified by the China Chest Pain Center, a national-level Stroke Center, approved by the China County Hospital Directors Alliance as a "co-construction county hospital comprehensive capacity enhancement training base" (the first in the country), a China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance nodule diagnosis and treatment center, one of the first batch of national pain control center sentinel hospitals, the first aviation medical rescue base hospital in Guangxi, the aviation medical rescue training base in Guangxi, the first "National Demonstration Hospital for Comprehensive Health Management" in Guangxi, one of the first batch of national tumor (digestive system) multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment pilot hospitals, the Guangxi Emergency Medicine Quality Control Center, the Guangxi Pain Medicine Quality Control Center, the first "Hemophilia Treatment Center" in Guangxi, the Guangxi Respiratory Disease Clinical Medical Research Center, the Guangxi Organ Transplant Clinical Medical Research Center, the designated hospital for cochlear implant surgery for newly disabled children in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the first public comprehensive hospital in China to pass the DNV International Hospital Standard Certification, the only autonomous region-level hospital in Guangxi to pass the ISO15189 medical laboratory quality and capability accreditation, and the only clinical nutrition construction demonstration unit in Guangxi.

The hospital has been awarded the "Demonstration Hospital for Improving Medical Services" by the National Health and Family Planning Commission in 2017, the national-level "Management Innovation Hospital" in 2018, the "Second-Class Merit Hospital of the Autonomous Region Health System" in 2019, and the "National Humanitarian Hospital" in 2019. In 2020, it was jointly awarded the title of "Outstanding Collective Performance in National Safe Hospitals" by the National Health Commission, the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, and ten other ministries. It was also recognized as an "Advanced Unit in National Hospital Medical Insurance Service Standards" for 2019-2020, and received the titles of "Demonstration Hospital for Improving Medical Services" and "Top Ten Highlights in Improving Medical Services" by the National Health Commission in 2020 (the only hospital in Guangxi to receive this honor). Its case of standardized and refined management won the first prize of the Hospital Management Innovation Award at the 2021 Central-South Six Provinces (Regions) Hospital Presidents' Summit. In 2022, it was awarded the title of Advanced Collective in Fighting the COVID-19 Epidemic in Shanghai by Guangxi.
